sperm Britanski znanstvenici s Newcastle University načinili su povijesni napredak u medicini stvorivši prvi put u laboratoriju ljudske spermije, objavio je stručni časopis Stem Cells and Development. Istraživači vjeruju da će njihov rad u roku od 5 godina pomoći pri rješavanju problema s neplodnošću kod muškaraca. Postupak počinje s matičnim stanicama dobivenih od ljudskih embrija nakon in vitro fertilizacije.

Matične stanice se smještaju u tekući nitrogen, zatim ih se stavlja u posebnu kemijsku supstancu radi poticanja rasta, te se označavaju s genetičkim markerom. Cijeli postupak traje 4-6 tjedana. Po riječima znanstvenika, novi nalazi će omogućiti i bolje razumijevanje uzroka neplodnosti kod muškaraca te povećati izglede za uspješniju prevenciju.
