e-recept Sustav elektronskog prepisivanja recepata donosi višemilijunsku uštedu zdravstvenom sustavu u SAD-e. Najnovija studija koju je proveo dr. Michael A. Fisher, profesor na Harvardu, a u kojoj je učestvovalo 1 200 liječnika koji su ispisali gotovo 17,5 mil. recepata za 1,5 mil. pacijenata pokazala je interesantne rezultate. Osiguravajuća društva koja su bila uključena u studiju označila su zeleno poželjne lijekove, a crveno nepoželjne.

Prilikom elektonskog prepisivanja lijekova 3,3% više korišteni su zeleni, npr. generički lijekovi, a 1,9% smanjeno je prepisivanje crvenih nepoželjnih, npr. preskupih lijekova. Ukupno je ušteđeno 845 000$ na 100 000 pacijenata godišnje.

Vlada SAD-e potiče sustav elektronskog zdravstva, pa tako Medicare daje bonus 2% na redovnu naknadu liječnicima koji do kraja 2009.g. uvedu e-sistem, 1% do kraja 2010. i 0,5% do kraja 2011. Istraživanja pokazuju da manje od 20% liječnika ima uveden e-sistem čija instalacija košta oko 3 000$, ali održavanje svega 100$ mjesečno. Sustav se svakodnevno unaprijeđuje, te ima bežićne uređaje i pristup web-portalu s informacijama o najnovijim lijekovima.
