Caritas Internationalis (međunarodna mreža nacionalnih Caritasa, koju čini i Hrvatski Caritas, čiji predstavnici u situacijama žurne pomoći pružaju logističku i operativnu podršku pogođenim zemljama) odmah je uputio u Čile ekipu za kriznu pomoć. Alistair Dutton, direktor za žurnu pomoć u Caritasu Internationalis, uputio se iz Haitija u Čile, zajedno s timom stručnjaka za potrese iz Meksika i Perua. "Ovo je bio ogroman potres pa se, nažalost, mogu očekivati znatne štete, no trenutno je nemoguće procijeniti njihov stvarni razmjer. Caritasova se mreža mobilizirala i priprema se za veliku akciju spašavanja i pomoći", izjavio je Dutton. Akciju možete pomoći: • uplatama na ž.r. Hrvatski Caritas pokrenuo je akciju prikupljanja pomoći u Hrvatskoj za stradale od potresa koji je jačinom 8,8 prema Richterovoj ljestvici pogodio 27.02. središnji Čile. U potresu, najvećem zabilježenom od 1960. godine do danas, smrtno je stradalo, prema trenutno poznatim podacima, oko 700 ljudi, no strahuje se kako će taj broj još rasti.
